Dimitar Berbatov has finished top of the latest Manchester United fans' poll, and has been named their player of the month for January.

Over 50,000 fans voted in an online poll on the club's official website, and it had looked as though rock-solid Serbian defender Nemanja Vidic would claim the top spot, until a late flurry of voting confirmed the suave striker form the Balkans as a the fans' favourite for January.

The shortlist, aside form Berbatov and Vidic, also contained the names of Edwin van der Sar, Michael Carrick and Ryan Giggs, but it was the two Slavs who ran away with the poll.

Berbatov's share of the vote was registered at 56 per cent, and Vidic's stood at 28 per cent. England midfielder Carrick came in with 7 per cent, ahead of goalkeeper van der Sar (6 per cent) and evergreen utility man Giggs (3 per cent).
