Betfair ambassador DmitarBerbatov had predicted the outcome of the Europa League final as confirmed by popular media platform Metro before the game in Gdansk, Poland on Wednesday night. Berbatov predicted two outcomes for the game.

The former Tottenham Hotspur and Manchester United striker had said that the Red Devils will win the Europa League final 2-0 or 2-1 at the expense of the Yellow Submarines. According to DmitarBerbatov, Manchester United will have too much quality and firepower for Villarreal who finished seventh at the end of the just concluded Spanish La Liga season.

DmitarBerbatov would get his prediction wrong after Villarreal saw off the challenge of the Red Devils via penalties after the game went into the dreaded shootout at the end of regulation time and extra time.

Villarreal were good value for a first half lead after Spanish international Gerard Moreno scored the first goal of the game to take his tally to 30 goals in all competitions. The Spaniard outmuscled Manchester United centre back Victor Lindelofto give his team the lead via a smart finish off a free kick. The strike from Moreno proved to be the only goal of the first half.

Manchester United striker EdinsonCavanihas been the go-to man for the club in terms of goals in recent matches and the Uruguayan international was responsible for dragging the Red Devils back into the game.He scored the equaliser for his team in the second half and that was how it stayed until the end of regulation time. The scoreline stayed the same until the end of extra time thus leading to the dreaded penalty shootout. In the end, Manchester United goalkeeper David De Gea missed his spot kick to hand the Europa League trophy to the Yellow Submarines.
