CAN UNITED DO THE IMPOSSIBLE AGAINST BARCELONA?

Manchester United face Barcelona on the 10th of March in what promises to be a classic quarter-final champions league tie. The clash is one of the keenly talked about clash as it features two of the biggest and successful teams in Europe.

Barcelona are the undisputed favourite for the clash as they boast the mercurial forward Lionel Messi in their ranks and have the best team on paper. However, as United showed in the round of 16 clash against PSG count them out at your own peril.

The team has come through leap and bounds since the appointment of Ole Gunnar Solksjaer in November. The Norwegian tactician has been able to instil a new found belief for the club and the players have been able to express themselves better.

Some of the players that appeared to stagnate under Jose Mourinho like Marcus Rashford, Romelu Lukaku and Paul Pogba have flourished under Solksjaer.

Manchester United would have to be tactically disciplined against Barcelona as it is well known that the Spanish team are good at punishing opponents’ mistakes. Paul Pogba would have to display the talent that made the club splash out an English record £89 million for his services in 2016.

United Legend and former forward Dimitar Berbatov is backing his former side to defeat the Catalan giants. According to Berbatov, United are made of sterner stuff and can keep Barcelona star forward Lionel Messi quiet in the clash.  He believes that United have to play like a team to stand any chance of progressing.

One major plus for United is that the club is close to a clean bill of health after an injury crisis engulfed the club in February. The recent international break allowed the players more time to recover and the likes of Ander Herrera, Jesse Lingard and Phil Jones should be back for the clash.
